What Types of Sedation are Available?

Our office is pleased to have a Level 3 Sedation Certification! This allows us to offer three different types of sedation, including IV sedation, oral sedation and nitrous sedation. Your dentist will be able to go over all of the options with you to determine which method would be best for your specific needs.

Oral Sedation

Oral sedation helps you feel relaxed throughout your dental appointment by taking a pill before your treatment begins. You will quickly begin to feel the effects of sedation. You will feel completely at ease and will not be bothered by surrounding sounds. Not only will you be completely relaxed, but treatment will be over before you know it!

IV Sedation

IV sedation is given through an IV during your visit. The levels of sedation can be raised or lowered as needed throughout treatment by our highly trained staff. This method works well during long appointments where extensive treatment is needed. Since the effects of IV sedation takes longer to wear off, you will need someone to drive you home after your visit.

Nitrous Sedation

With nitrous sedation, a facial mask is worn throughout your visit that administers a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen. This combination begins to help you relax within minutes. You can respond to your dentist if needed, but will feel comfortable the entire time. The effects of sedation begin to wear away as soon as the mask is removed.
